What's An Ayurvedic Consultation?

If you are anything like me you are probably wondering what to expect during an Ayurvedic consultation. Before beginning my journey, I had NO idea. Literally, none. I was used to my normal PCP doctors appointments which I’d be in and out within 20 minutes and felt like we didn’t cover anything except immediate issues. Do not get me wrong, your PCP and Western medical doctors are very important and I always recommend you continue to work with your current doctors.

Now, back to what to expect during an Ayurvedic consultation. Before we even meet you will fill out a detailed intake form which you can expect to take between 30-60 minutes to complete and covers at least the following:

  • Complete health history

  • Family history

  • Current issues (physical, mental, emotional)

  • Current concerns

  • Diet

  • Exercise

  • Digestion and elimination (yup, we talk about your poop!)

  • and a lot of other lifestyle questions

I’ll also request a few pictures such as your tongue, eyes, nails, full body (clothed obviously!), and a full face picture. The initial consultation will typically last between 60-90 minutes. During that time we will cover all your intake answers in a lot more detail and go over any goals you may have.

Every single thing you and I discuss is strictly confidential. It does not get shared with anyone. Ever.

We will also discuss things that you are willing to modify or eliminate and also things you are not willing to change. All my suggestions come with moderation and we often start small and increase over time. Nothing will ever be out of your comfort level. Don’t want to give up coffee all together? That’s fine! Don’t want to practice yoga? That’s cool too! The plan I come up with for you needs to work for YOU; otherwise, you won’t stick to it. Trust me, I’ve been there.

We will also take the time to cover all of your questions and concerns before wrapping up the initial consultation. Once our initial meeting is complete, I will come up with a plan that includes recommendations for you. We will plan to follow up within a few weeks to go over the plan, cover any questions, and chat about moving forward.

These consultations are meant to be educational and helpful. We all want to feel better, let’s work together to see what we can do!

Thank you for sharing this! I learned so much valuable information from our sessions. The best part for me was being able to fit everything in to my own schedule and you never made me feel like I wasn't doing enough. Thank you again ~ Susan
